The 65th anniversary of the Faculty of Preventive Medicine is a significant event not only for its faculty, staff and students, but for the entire Kazan Medical University. An anniversary is a certain milestone with summing up the results of activities. Let us also turn over some pages of the history of the medical and preventive faculty.
The role of the Kazan hygienic school in the development of human ecology problems
Abstract
As you know, just over a year ago Kazan Medical University celebrated its 180th anniversary. Today we are on the verge of the 65th anniversary of the Faculty of Medicine and Prevention, the foundations of which were laid much earlier. In this regard, one cannot fail to recall that quite recently, in December 1994, we celebrated the 125th anniversary of the Department of Hygiene, the first in Russia. In those years, at the department headed by professors A. I. Yakobiy, I. P. Skvortsov, M. Ya. Kapustin, K. E. Dobrovolsky, I. A. Rammul and N. I. Orlov, up to 20 —The 30s of the 19th century carried out important studies of a socio-hygienic, methodological and methodological nature, devoted to various aspects of general and communal hygiene. If we use modern terminology, then already at that time the foundations of human ecology and environmental hygiene were laid - a priority direction of the multifaceted activity of representatives of the Kazan School of Hygienists.

Actual problems of certification of workplaces
Abstract
Certification of workplaces, carried out by some departments for quite a long time, initially solved a very wide range of tasks. In the course of it, as a rule, the compliance of workplaces with the modern scientific and technical level (progressiveness of the applied process, technical condition of the equipment used, technological equipment of workplaces, etc.), organizational and aesthetic levels (compliance of the area of the workplace with the norms of technological design, aesthetic requirements, the use of progressive forms of labor organization, etc.), the proper state of working conditions and safety precautions (the degree of compliance of workplaces with the requirements of regulatory documentation on sanitary and hygienic conditions, the availability of personal and collective protective equipment, etc.). In some departments, when attesting workplaces, the possibility of increasing labor productivity, improving the quality of manufactured products and reducing its cost is determined. If the workplace for any of the above group indicators cannot be certified, then a decision is made how to rationalize it or eliminate it altogether. The ultimate goal of certification is to determine the types of benefits and compensations for employees working in adverse and difficult conditions (increasing wage rates, establishing a shorter working day, free delivery of milk or therapeutic and preventive nutrition, preferential pensions, etc.).
Effect of the work with videodisplay terminals on the mental profile of the personality

Adaptation responses of the organism of animals in the inhalation action of lead acetate
Abstract
The comparative characteristic of adaptation changes in the organism of white rats in the inhalation action of lead acetate us given. At the same time attempts are made to study the dependence of the beginning of adaptation processes on the poison concentration in the air and possibility of its quantitative expression. The general nonspecific responses of the organism to the inhalation action of lead acetate are revealed as the result of the investigations.
Some particular problems of chemistry and hygiene
Abstract
Starting from 1950, scientific centers were established in various cities of the USSR to study microelements, to study their biological role and content in environmental objects, tissues, organs, liquid media of a living organism, in normal and pathological conditions, to elucidate their role in the etiology and pathogenesis of various diseases, prevention and treatment of diseases. Tatarstan is endemic for goiter region. It is well known that endemic goiter occurs due to a lack of iodine in nature. The soil serves as a "supplier" of iodine for plants, animals and humans, so its role in the iodine cycle in nature can be considered a leading one. Consequently, the organization of a successful fight against endemic goiter is unthinkable without comprehensive studies of the biogeochemical situation in endemic foci and in the whole country, especially without taking into account the content of various forms of iodine in soils [13].
Epidemiology
Achievements in the fight against infectious diseases in the Republic of Tatarstan
Abstract
In the struggle to reduce infectious disease in Tatarstan from 1917 to 1994, five major stages can be distinguished. Stage I (1917-1923). The very difficult sanitary and epidemiological legacy inherited from tsarist Russia was further aggravated in 19118-1920. as a result of civil war, intervention, economic ruin and famine. During these years, the epidemic situation as a whole worsened, especially in connection with an unprecedented rise in the incidence of typhus. Thus, in 1920, compared with 1918, the incidence of typhus increased 54 times, typhoid fever - 1.6 times, smallpox - 2 times. In 1921, the incidence of cholera was 390.0 per 100,000 population. The fight against these terrible diseases had to be carried out in the most difficult conditions: there were not enough doctors, paramedical workers, there were no hospitals, medicines - hunger raged!
Outbreak of iersiniosis in the children's centre of the Stary Kuvak village
Abstract
The group disease of 37 persons with iersiniosis is described. The first patient was directed into the hospital with suspicion of acute appendicitis. Iersiniosis took its slight course in 91,1% of the patients. The reason of the outbreak is Yersinia enterocolitica dissemination of biovar 2 serovar 03 containing pYV pathogenicity plasmida, ready dishes and tableware of the children's centre on account of the of water contaminated with iersenia for household purposes and the in observance of sanitary norms by the staff. The epidemiologic role of a patient with iersiniosis as a source of infection is confirmed.
Serological screening for immunity against diphtheria and tetanus in the adult population
Abstract
In recent years, the epidemic situation in diphtheria has deteriorated sharply. An essential point in assessing the dynamics of the epidemic process of diphtheria is the determination of the state of immunity of the population. Judging by the numerous publications [4-5], the number of immune persons and the level of antibodies in them in different years and in certain territories are different. Given that the highest incidence is currently observed among adults, we decided to study the state of protection not of the total population, but of adults. The intensity of immunity to diphtheria and tetanus in the adult population of Kazan was studied by us in 1992 against the background of epidemic well-being, at that time in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Moscow, Leningrad, Irkutsk regions, Primorsky Krai, there was a significant increase in the incidence of diphtheria.
Study of the effect of ammonium iron citrate on the virulence of nontuberculous mycobacteria
Abstract
The method of the determination of the virulence of nontuberculous mycobacteria by the injection of ferric iron salts to white mice is developed, the comparative analysis of the I sensitivity of this method and estimation of the virulence of mycobacteria by sensitization of white mice by pertussoid monovalent vaccine is performed. The investigations are carried out on 270 not pedigree white mice with 6 species of nontuberculous mycobacteria. It is established that the injection of ammonium iron citrate increases the virulence of the all nontuberculous mycobacteria strains studied except for M. phlei. The method given proved to be more sensitive than the method with pertussoid vaccine.

The positive clinicoimmunologic effect of the drug in relapsing erysipelas associated with its corrective action on the T-lymphocytic link, activity of natural killers, elaboration of humoral factors and elimination of circulating of humoral factors and elimination of circulating immune complexes is stated.
Functional and metabolic activity of neutrophils in erysipelas
Abstract
The functional and metabolic activity of neutrophils in 66 patients with erysipelas depending on the degree of intoxication and effect of serous factors is studied. It is shown that in the acute period of erysipelas the increase of leukocytic index of intoxication, natural inhibiting factor level, and functional and metabolic activity of neutrophils in spontaneous NST-test and the decrease — in indurative NST-test are revealed. The high level of the natural inhibiting factor is retained in the early convalescence period in 80% of the patients with relapsing form of the erysipelas. The plausible inhibiting effect of serous factors on the functional and metabolic activity of neutrophils in patients with erysipelas is revealed.
Selenium status and lipid peroxides in patients with cardiovascular diseases
Abstract
Selenium concentration in blood and plasma as well as the activity of glutathionperoxidase of erythrocytes and lipid peroxides are studied in patients with neurocirculatory dystonia, ischemic heart disease, hypertrophic and dilatation cardiomyopathy. The reduction of the activity of glutathioperoxidase of erythrocytes and activation of lipid peroxides without blood selenium concentration decrease are revealed in patients with neurocirculatory dystonia. The decrease of blood selenium concentration, the activity of glutathionperoxidase of erythrocytes and activation of lipid peroxides are revealed in patients with ischemic heart disease, dilatation and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. The content of blood serum selenium is linked with lipid peroxides and magnitude of left ventricle diastolic dimension in patients with dilatation cardiomyopathy. The results obtained suggest selenium particilation in cardiomyopathy and ischemic heart disease pathogenesis aproving the study of selenium-containing drugs utility.
Role of reactive inflammations in paraossal, osteal structures and mater spinalis in experimental scoliosis reproduction
Abstract
The one-way suture of the dura mater spinalis' to the lateral portion of yellow ligament is performed for the purpose of the experimental scoliosis production on 14 rabbits aged 1 month after osteoplastic graft laminectomy by the method developed. The stable scoliosis of the III degree is observed in all animals to the end of the fourth month. The primarily one-way direction of the growth of vertebral arches and bodies as well as paravertebral soft tissue structures is due to the complex pathophysiological process caused by the nonadequate response of tensor dorsal muscles and pronounced tension of the body flexors, dura mater spinalis.
