The effect of temperature on the respiration of the heart muscle
Abstract
As you know, cardiac activity clearly obeys the Van't Hoff'a law, that is, it increases 2-3 times with an increase in temperature by 10 ° C [1]). By this, cardiac activity is characterized as a chemical process. Until now, however, we have not been able to grasp the nature of the chemical processes underlying the heartbeat, and yet the solution of this issue is of considerable interest in the general biological sense.
Physiological stimulants of the heart
Abstract
All cardiac stimulants, from the point of view of physiology, can be divided into 1) physiological, natural, native stimulants and 2) the same pharmacodynamic, artificial, forcibly timed to an individual in moments of deviation from the norm.
To the clinic of epidemic hiccups
Abstract
In wide medical circles, persistent hiccups, —singultus — are viewed either as a highly serious symptom of a severe disease of the abdominal organs or the central nervous system, or — as an accidental reflex to the motor nerves of the diaphragm that is not of great importance for patients and the muscles of the chest and abdomen.
To the clinic and therapy of lymphogranulomatosis Paltauf-Sternbergʹa
Abstract
As an independent painful form, lymphogranulomatosis was identified pathologically and histologically in 1898 by Sternberg (1). This disease, still called "Hodgkin's disease" in the English literature, "malignant lymphoma" (Billroth), "malignant granuloma" (Benda) in German, has now a more apt name - "lymphogranulomatosis" (Rar- penheim). The latter determines both the soil and the nature of suffering, since now most authors agree on the understanding of the latter as a chronic inflammatory-hyperplastic disease of the lymphatic apparatus (2-4). All authors also recognize the infectious origin of lymphogranulomatosis.
On the question of lipomas of the spermatic cord and scrotum
Abstract
The diagnosis of tumors in the groin-scrotal region is currently well developed. In each individual case, during recognition, it is necessary to solve 2 questions: 1) from which organ or tissue the given tumor emanates and 2) what character it has. In the vast majority of cases, both the one and the other question are easily resolved, if we take into account the data of anamnesis, examination, palpation (mainly), and sometimes instrumental research.
To the casuistry of spleen blood cysts
Abstract
Cases of blood cysts of the spleen are extremely rare on the operating table (Finkelstein could collect only 28 such cases from the literature), even more rare on the sectional table (only 3 cases in Finkelstein) and exquisite-rare, in the order of correct preliminary recognition.
A case of a blind wound to the skull followed by removal of a bullet that remained in the medulla for 7 years
Abstract
Cavity surgery and, in particular, surgery of the skull with its contents are losing their origins in the distant past of mankind. In this regard, the bones of the skull serve as a fairly stable monument of how daring thought was among our ancestors in search of means of combating diseases of the skull and its contents - this is evidenced by defects in the bones (vault) of the skull found during excavations and belonging to the prehistoric era (Ozerov ). Like any department of surgery, craniocerebral surgery, after long ordeals in the stages of the pre-antiseptic period, from the moment the rights of citizenship were won by antiseptics and aseptics, entered the firm path of experiment and scientific clinical experience.
Rare case of ovarian dermoid with intestinal derivative and fat globules
Abstract
One of the rare types of ovarian dermoid cysts is the form in which the fatty contents of the cyst look like separate balls floating in the liquid. In the literature available to us, we could collect only 23 cases of „dermoid balls: 19 cases are mentioned in the work of Plenz’a [1]), the rest belong to Lippertʹu [2]), prof. Timofeev [3]) (2 words), Poteenko [4]) and Kellendonk'u [5]). Cases Plenz'a and Kellendonk'a are the only ones studied from the chemical point of view, in terms of the composition of ball fat. We recently observed one case of this kind in the Gynecological Clinic of the Kazan Clinical Institute.
Infectious psychoses
Abstract
The epidemics of 1918-1922, which covered vast areas of the Soviet Union, gave a very large number of mental illnesses that developed after infectious diseases, and now is just the time to take stock and draw conclusions from this great material.
About modern methods of diagnosing tuberculosis
Abstract
The main basis for a reasonable fight against tuberculosis, both in the therapeutic and prophylactic sense, is the correct, scientifically grounded diagnosis, which makes it possible to recognize the early manifestations of active tuberculosis.
Posttyphoid spondylitis
Abstract
Golst (Russian Clinic, 1924, No. 2) reports on 56 of his own observations of spondylitis after typhus, relapsing and typhoid fever. It turns out that spondylitis after typhus and relapsing fever is not very rare and approximately equally often after each of these infections. The clinical course is characterized by rapidly growing pains, which usually disappear rather quickly without any treatment; rarely, the disease can acquire a protracted course, which is accompanied by radiating pain, radicular phenomena, pain when tapping and pressing, kyphosis, scoliosis, spinal stiffness and, in rare cases, paresis, paralysis and contractures of the lower extremities. In some cases, a link is established with trauma.
Tuberculous spondylitis Berg'mann’a (Arch. f. orthop. u. Unf-Chir., 1923, XXII)
Abstract
Tuberculous spondylitis in the Orthopedic Department of the Charité Surgical Polyclinic in Berlin, according to the study of Bergmann'a (Arch. F. Orthop. U. Unf-Chir., 1923, XXII), during the time from 1912 to 1922 was established 342 times, which is 23% in relation to all bone-tuberculosis patients.
The mutual influence of the uterus and ovaries Tакакusu (Arch, f. m. А. и. Entwicklmech., Bd. 102, Н ⅓)
Abstract
Takakusu (Arch, fm A. and. Entwicklmech., Bd. 102, H), putting on mice a series of experiments with the extirpation of the uterus, injections of extracts from this organ, with parabiosis and reinforcement of the uterus, came to the conclusion that both the uterus and and the ovary have a hormonal effect on each other influence of the uterus is expressed in the fact that it delays the development of luteal tissue and leads to the reverse development of already formed yellow bodies
To the diagnosis and treatment of dropsy in pregnant women Wieloch (Zentr. f. Gyn., 1924, № 17)
Abstract
Zangemeister's studies have found that hydrops gravidarum is a specific disease of pregnant women that plays a role in the etiology of eclampsia, and that if it is recognized in a pregnant woman in a timely manner and treated with therapeutic measures, then the development of eclamptic seizures can be prevented.
Intravenous infusion of 40% urotropine solution Pasch’eм (Zentr, f. Gyn., 1924, № 13)
Abstract
Intravenous infusions of 40% urotropine solution are warmly recommended by Pasch (Zentr, f. Gyn., 1924, No. 13) as a measure against postoperative urinary retention, cystitis, as well as urinary bladder disorders after prolonged childbirth and obstetric operations.
Constitutional factor in the pathogenesis of uterine bleeding Seitz’a (Arch. f. Gyn., Bd. 120)
Abstract
The constitutional factor in the pathogenesis of uterine bleeding, according to the observations of Seitz'a (Arch. F. Gyn., Bd. 120), affects as follows: in metrorrhagias of adolescent and preclimacteric ages, disorders of ovarian function come to the fore as a causal factor; with metrorrhagias of the age of puberty, constitutional anomalies have no effect.
Adrenal glands with anencephaly А. Kohn (Arch. f. m.. A. und Entwklmech., Bd. 102, Н⅓)
Abstract
The long-known fact of pronounced hypoplasia or even complete absence of the adrenal glands in freaks with anencephalia A. Kohn (Arch. F. M .. A. und Entwklmech., Bd. 102, Н⅓) does not consider it possible to associate with a brain defect.
X-ray of the pituitary gland in the treatment of fibroids Hirsch (Zntrlb. f. G., 1924, № 8)
Abstract
Hirsch (Zntrlb. F. G., 1924, No. 8) considers x-ray of the pituitary gland in the treatment of myomas to be an unreliable method and resorts to it only in cases where it is impossible to accurately determine the position of the ovaries, for example, with obesity, large fibroids, etc.
Why women with advanced cervical cancer die НоIzbaсh’y (Zentr. f. Gyn., 1923, № 50—51)
Abstract
According to HoIzbach'y (Zentr. F. Gyn., 1923, No. 50-51), almost every case of this disease that falls on the sectional table indicates a severe lesion of the urinary apparatus, dilatation of the ureters, the disappearance of the renal parenchyma and kidney infection.
Ureteral catheterization for uterine cancer Holz (Zentr f. Gyn., 1924, № 13)
Abstract
Analyzing the issue of the treatment of inoperable uterine cervix cancers with the danger of uremia, Holz (Zentr f. Gyn., 1924, No. 13) does not agree with HoIzbach, who proposed, in order to avoid uremia due to compression of the ureters by tumor masses, their preventive preparation.
Puppet disease Krainsky (Provisional Review, 1924, No. 2)
Abstract
This is what Krainsky (Br. Obozr., 1924, No. 2) calls chronic lethargic encephalitis. The main group of symptoms of this disease — the doll-like figure, cohesion, scarcity of movements and their slowness — raises the author's question: are we here dealing with a disorder of motor innervation, or with a change in the state of the innervated muscle itself? K. suggests the latter and explains this by a change in the colloidal state of muscle tissue.
Essence of Wassermanna reaction Zilber and Frize (Arch. Wedge, and Expert. Med., 1924, No. 3-4)
Abstract
Zilber and Frize (Arch. Klin, and Expert. Med., 1924, No. 3-4) experimentally refute the specificity of WR in the sense of Ehrlich’a and defend its chemical-colloidal nature. Since, according to Wassermann, only lipoids can serve as antigens in his reaction, the authors took as antigens substances that have nothing to do with lipoids — paraffin suspension and gelatin.
Effect of thermal irritation on gastric function Friedrich (Zeit. f. d. ges. physik. Therapie, 1924, Bd. 28)
Abstract
In practice, very often cold and heat are used for diseases of the stomach, and until now it was unclear what the effect of thermal irritation is based on here; apparently, in addition to the known effect of contrast temperatures on the vessels and body temperature, there is also an indirect effect of thermal stimuli on the body through the sympathetic system. Recently, Weitzn Sterkel observed that when X-ray of the stomach the latter gives a different picture if the X-ray occurs in a cold room than when it is done at ordinary room temperature, namely, in a cold room the stomach is hypertonic, which Friedrich (Zeit.fd ges. physik. Therapie, 1924, Bd. 28) considers not as a result of the direct action of cold, but as a reflex phenomenon, due to irritation of the parasympathetic nerve plexus.
To the essence of the effect of hydriatic procedures on the body Prof. Chernikov (Doctor. Delo, 1924, No. 8-10)
Abstract
Prof. Chernikov (Doctor. Delo, 1924, Nos. 8-10) comes to the conclusion that “irritation therapy” is the basis of all physiological procedures, similarly to protein therapy. The therapeutic effect is obtained here from the action on the skin, the esophylactic capacity of which increases, and the general and local reactions of the body are excited.
The action of laughing gas in the treatment of the mountain sun Pollitzer и Stolz (Münch, m. Woch, 1924, №29)
Abstract
The physiological effects produced by the artificial mountain sun include, among other things, lowering blood pressure. Kestner attributes this to the effect of inhalation of nitrous oxide (N2O), which is produced by electrical discharge. Pollitzer and Stolz (Münch, m. Woch, 1924, no. 29) set themselves the goal of resolving the following questions:
Occupational pneumoconiosis (Labor Hygiene, 1924, No. 5)
Abstract
Despite the gross anatomical changes in pneumoconiosis (sometimes the lung can contain up to 24% silicic acid and be so hard that it does not lend itself to a knife), the latter occupy an insignificant place in the clinic of pulmonary diseases.
The doctrine of constitutions and constitutional anomalies (diathesis) in childhood and their biological and pathological significance.
Abstract
The modern flourishing of the doctrine of constitutions was largely caused by the works of pediatricians published at the end of the last and at the beginning of this century (Escherich's work on status thymico-lymphaticus, Combu — on arthritism, Czernu — on exudative diathesis). Despite this, until now there has been no systematic presentation of the doctrine of constitutions in childhood; therefore the book of prof. Maslova appeared very timely.
Sexual issues. Leningrad, 1924.51 pp. In 16.
Abstract
The need for timely, even in childhood, familiarization of each and every one with the basics of the physiology of sexual life, its hygiene, the prevention of sexual diseases, etc., has long been recognized and preached by doctors, but only recently this familiarization began to be carried out in more or on a smaller scale.

Clinical observations of the peripheral arterial heart
Abstract
The dominant teaching of hemodynamics is reduced to how Henle formulated it, that “the heart only moves the blood, and the vessels distribute it”. The main place in the process of blood movement from the point of view of this theory (Landois) is given to the pulsatory activity of the heart. The latter is the central engine, while the vessels help the heart in the movement of blood, since they facilitate its work with their elasticity. But the vessels themselves do not have a living, motor, active force and cannot give such a blood flow.
