Tests of the cardiovascular system in persons prone to seasickness
Abstract
Motion sickness, which occurs as a result of a number of unusual irritations of the body during a sea roll, consists, as is known, mainly of the following symptoms: headache, dizziness and weakness; then there are changes in the color of the face, then hyperemia, then his paleness, unpleasant sensations from the heart (palpitations, sinking of the heart), cold sweat, salivation, hiccups, yawning and, finally, in the most pronounced cases, nausea, vomiting and general a state resembling shock.
0 pulmonary cancer in miners
Abstract
The theory of the occurrence of pulmonary cancer due to chronic irritation and inflammation of the respiratory tract, in particular, on the basis of pneumoconiosis, is currently receiving great attention. The basis for this view was a number of histopathological studies, which revealed epithelial proliferation and metaplastic changes in the bronchial mucosa and alveolar epithelium (Askanazi, Shmorl, Fried, Davidovsky) in chronic inflammatory processes and pneumoconiosis, i.e., a pre-carcinomatous state.
Typhoid-like diseases with Gertner's bacillus in the blood
Abstract
The role of Gertner's bacillus (according to the international classification of 1933 S. enteritidis) in the etiology of food poisoning has long been known. There is a great deal of foreign and Russian literature on this issue. Ioffe in his work “On the group b. enteritidis Gartner "cites the data of Savage and White, according to which" among the food poisoning of all cases, Gertner's bacillus is accounted for. " Horst Habs reports that Gertner's wand in Heidelberg in 1932-1933. was isolated in 13% of cases of food poisoning. This percentage (10-15%) is given in the same article and based on the materials of Kaufman.
Isolated fracture of the navicular bone of the wrist
Abstract
Fractures are one of the main chapters of traumatology: they account for 15 to 20% of all injuries to the human body. Of this number, more than 50% are fractures of the upper limb, and the frequency of their localization in this area is distributed approximately as follows: the collarbone falls from 30 to 32%; on the shoulder 15%; on the forearm 34-35%; on the wrist 3-6% and, finally, on the hand 15-16%.
Chronic breast abscesses
Abstract
Chronic breast abscesses are of great practical interest. This disease is far from common. So, according to Lenormand's statistics, 121 out of 175 breast lesions fall on breast cancer, 50 cases on acute mastitis and only 4 cases on chronic abscess.
About foreign bodies of the trachea and bronchi
Abstract
A very rich literature has accumulated on the issue of foreign bodies of the trachea and bronchi. A particularly large number of works on this issue have appeared in the last 20-25 years. It would seem that there is no need to return to this topic.
Rheumatic pulmonitis in children
Abstract
The sectional material shows with no doubt that the rheumatic process affects various parts of the cardiovascular system, including large vessels. From a clinical point of view, lesions of these vessels and, in particular, the pulmonary artery represent a little, or rather, almost completely unexplored chapter.
Endonasal method of using tuberculin therapy in children
Abstract
In the field of tuberculin therapy for children, there were periods of enthusiasm and disappointment, and so far not a single method has been developed, nor the form of its use, nor dosage. Tuberculin therapy by rubbing in equal parts of tuberculin and lanolin (Petrushka, Medovikov, Kressling) has not given us tangible results.
To the question of the effect of active immunization on the carriage of diphtheria bacilli
Abstract
If in active immunization against diphtheria we have not yet had a means that guarantees 100% of the disease in all, then in any case this means justifies the hopes placed on it. Scientific thought does not stop there, but is looking for new ways to increase the effectiveness of vaccinations and simplify the method of immunization. A huge amount of material according to domestic and foreign authors illustrates the results of diphtheria immunization by comparing the percentage of morbidity and mortality from diphtheria among vaccinated and unvaccinated groups of the child population.
To the clinic retinitis albuminurica gravidarum
Abstract
Eye complications during pregnancy are quite diverse. There are both relatively safe complications - dilation of the lymphatic vessels of the conjunctiva, hysterical disorders of motor muscles, hemeralopia of pregnant women, etc., and serious suffering, sometimes serving as formidable signs of a general serious illness.
Blood transfusion treatment for vitreous opacities
Abstract
Vitreous opacity is a disease that has not yet been clarified. The etiological factor is considered tuberculosis, syphilis, other infectious diseases, hemophilia, etc. All this indicates that the pathological process in the vitreous body is the result of a disease of the whole organism, and not a disease of one organ, and therefore treatment should have in mind the overall effect on organism.
The influence of the diet on the Arthus phenomenon
Abstract
The theory of allergy has recently made great strides. Thanks to advances in the experimental study of allergy, it has become possible to explain the pathogenesis of many diseases. One of the unresolved issues of allergy is the desensitization of allergic conditions. Desensitization by Bezrekka gives good results only against general anaphylaxis and related serum sickness.
Dynamics of changes in glutathione fluctuations in experimental heart defects
Abstract
Understanding the mechanism of cardiac decompensation requires knowledge of both hemodynamic and protoplasmic-dynamic factors. Protoplasmic-dynamic processes are intimately associated with redox processes. From this point of view, recently, great importance has been attached to glutathione, as a representative of a thermostable redox system.
A case of septic disease caused by b. Proteus
Abstract
On the issue of pathogenicity b. Proteus is not clear enough. Most authors consider Proteus to be a conditionally pathogenic species. However, due to the widespread distribution of b. Proteus in nature and its ability to drown out the growth of other species on media must be approached with great caution in recognizing its etiological significance in each individual case. Indications of Proteus as the causative agent of local diseases are not so rare in the literature. Hauser in 1882 described a case of phlegmonous inflammation, in which the causative agent was b. Proteus and Streptococcus.
О feeding patients with gastrostomy
Abstract
For the purpose of rational nutrition of patients, it is necessary to provide the body with a sufficient amount of food of a strictly defined composition (proteins and fats of animals and plants, carbohydrates, salts) and at the same time, you need to take care of a sufficient supply of vitamins, since the absence of the latter leads to a number of characteristic severe disorders in the body ... Roger believes that patients during illness consume all their reserves of vitamins, and if they do not get enough of them with food, they fall ill with vitamin deficiency anemia.
To the spinal cord injury clinic
Abstract
When studying the clinic of spinal cord injuries, we observed one patient, the peculiarity of the pathology of which made us isolate and describe him separately. Patient I, 21, a worker, was admitted to the clinic on 1/1 1936 with complaints of weakness in the limbs, complete inability to move. and urinary disorder. On 20 / VIII 1935, while swimming, the patient jumped from a tree into the water (from a height of 4 meters) and hit his head on a stone at the bottom of the river.
About the so-called "appendicular symptom complex" in malaria
Abstract
Appendicitis, being the most common disease of the abdominal organs and at the same time the most "insidious" disease in which the cardinal symptoms take on all sorts of shades, should rightfully occupy the attention of a therapist, and especially a surgeon when patients complain of abdominal pain.
Prof. A. Denker, prof. V. Albrecht. Textbook of diseases of the ear, upper respiratory tract and oral cavity. Biomedgiz, 1936, 623 pages with 350 images in the text and atlas. Bound price 16 rubles. Translation from the XI German edition of Dr. A. I. Kortuzhanskiy edited and supplemented by Assoc. Ya. B. Kaplan
Abstract
The textbook was published on satisfactory paper, typed in distinct type, richly illustrated with drawings. It is a very solid work, briefly and at the same time in detail setting out the basics of otorhinolaryngology. The premise of the basics of prevention and therapy, the presentation of the individual parts, as well as the chapter on diseases of the oral cavity and the phonetic appendix, make the textbook especially valuable. It is quite obvious that it will receive the widest distribution both among students and among practitioners.
Bachmann, A. Significance of antigen-Vi in the protective properties of typhoid serum. "(Comptes Rendus des S. de la S. de Biologie, t. CXXIV, 4, 1937, p. 380)
Abstract
Based on his own experiments, the author comes to the conclusion that the preventive effect of typhoid sera does not depend on the presence of agglutinins or precipitins in them, but is the result of the action of the opsonizing substances contained in them.
Delves. E. Data from an immunological study of purified serum proteins, as a basis for the theory of the unity of antibodies. (The Journ of Inf. Diseases, vol. 60, 1937)
Abstract
In recent years, many works have appeared confirming the theory of Zinsser and Wells about the unity of antibodies. In the light of these studies, it becomes obvious that the solution of the problem of the unity or multiple antibodies can be achieved only with the use of an antiserum obtained by introducing a purified antigen instead of bacteria, erythrocytes or whole serum. By varying the physical state of the antigen under these conditions and testing homologous antisera, it is possible to study various reactions of the antigen with the antibody (precipitation, agglutination, complement binding, phagocytosis).
Schüphach. Hormone treatment for Simmonds disease. (Schweizer med. Woch, vol. 66, no. 50, 1937)
Abstract
Insufficiency of the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland in Simmonds disease may be a consequence of progressive anatomical processes, such as a malignant tumor, or non-progressive anatomical changes, such as atrophy, inflammatory processes, and trauma. This disease can also be caused by syphilis, or, finally, it can only be functional, as in the postpartum malnutrition described by Kurchman.
Roy Mac Clare. Secondary insufficiency of the parathyroid glands after removal of the parathyroid adenoma and the ineffectiveness of treatment with extracts of the parathyroid glands. (Arch. Of Surgery, vol. 33, no. 5, 1936)
Abstract
A 51-year-old woman underwent surgery to remove the parathyroid glands for fibrocystic osteitis with spontaneous fractures. A tumor of the parathyroid gland was found adjacent to the lower pole of the right lobe of the thyroid gland, as a result of which the entire right lobe was removed.
Schura. The relationship of genuinic arterial hypertension with thyroid function (Wiener. Klin. Wschr, No. 19, 1936)
Abstract
In patients with genuinic arterial hypertension, prolonged tachycardia is often observed. This gave rise to many authors to associate this symptom with hyperfunction of the thyroid gland. However, studies of the basal metabolism, as well as iodine treatment, do not always confirm this hypothesis.
Zondek, V. On the delay of menstruation by follicular hormone. (Wiener klin Wschr. No. 15, 1936)
Abstract
The author summarizes the role of various factors causing menstruation. A number of different theories are described, and as a result, the author comes to the conclusion that menstruation is a complex hormonal process. The mechanism of menstruation depends on both the gonadotropic hormone of the anterior lobe and the hormones of the ovary — folliculin, progestin.
Riblеr. A case of gynecomastia with cirrhosis of the liver. (Wien kl. Wschr. 1936, no. 35)
Abstract
The author describes a case of gynecomastia due to cirrhosis of the liver. He points out that more than 15 such cases have been noted in the literature. The author explains the pathogenesis of the combination of these diseases as follows.
Nahmmacher, N. Intrauterine use of coal in obstetrics and gynecology. (Mtschr. Geburtsh u. Gyn. 1937, 104.5-6, 353-354)
Abstract
Based on his many years of observations, A. recommends intrauterine use of coal in cases of febrile and febrile abortions, general septic infection, puerperal endometritis, caesarean section after rupture of the membranes, diseases of the cervical canal and nonspecific leucorrhoea.
Philipp. To the clinic of endometriosis. (Zbl. Gyn. 1937, 1, 2-3)
Abstract
A. indicates that many cases of ovarian and abdominal endometriosis occur in a retrograde way. If patients have severe dysmenorrhea and pain that intensifies during menstruation, endometriosis should be considered in the differential diagnosis. The ego especially applies to those cases where such phenomena were not observed before, and they appeared only in old age.
Mölling. E. Biopsy for diseases of the mammary glands in women (runs Beitr. 1937, 165, 2, 192-209)
Abstract
Biopsy is a valuable aid in the diagnosis of breast diseases, especially of a malignant nature. The indications of many surgeons on the possibility of rapid tumor growth after it are rejected by pathologists on the basis of biological data and the results of experimental studies of tumors.
Roxas. Neurological disorders during pregnancy. (Philippine Islands Med. Ass J. V. 16 IX 1936)

The authors took 78 pregnant women under their supervision. They noted hypoglycemia associated with neurological disorders in 58 of them. Symptoms were limited to paresthesia, cramps, muscle twitching, local edema, chest tightness, back pain; brittle nails, dental caries, thinning hair and muscle weakness.
Beck, M A Study of the Epidemiology of Relapsing Fever in California. (The Journ. Of Inf. Diseases, Vol. 60, 1937)
Abstract
The author has established that relapsing fever is endemic in California. During 1921 - 1935. 106 cases were reported in 9 foci located in the mountains at an altitude of 5000 feet. 13 strains of spirochetes morphologically close to recurrent spirochetes of field rodents were isolated.
Albison, V. D. and Rrown, W. A. Reinfection as a cause of complications and relapses in scarlet fever hospitals. (J. of Hvg. 1937.37.2)
Abstract
Hemolytic streptococci, isolated from the throat of scarlet fever patients, belong to different types of str. pyogenes. During their stay in the hospital, patients become infected from neighbors with streptococci of other serological types, different from those that they had upon admission.
Williams, W. Identification of streptococcal mastitis in regular milk samples. (Am. J. Publ. Health 1937.27.5)
Abstract
Author was able to show that with mastitis in cows from their milk, it is most often possible to isolate str. agalactiae. Mastitis is a fairly common disease among cows, and streptococcal cultures are often isolated in forms of the disease that are clinically unremarkable.

Chronicle
Abstract
As a result of the law of 27 / VI 1936, the growth in the birth rate in our country increased especially sharply. For example, in Moscow in 5 months 196 (from 1 / I to 1 / VI) 30,170 children were born, during the same time in 193 56,398 were born, that is, there is an increase of 87%. In Leningrad, during the same months in 1936, 21,980 children were born, and in 1937, 39.79) children, that is, an increase of 55%.
