To the 125th anniversary of Kazan University

Board E.

Abstract

The Faculty of Medicine can, together with the entire university, celebrate the 125th anniversary of its existence: already among the first teachers of the university there was I.P. Kamensky, a teacher of anatomy, physiology and forensic sciences. However, the complete division of the university into faculties took place only in 1813, and the first medical professors were I. O-Brown and F. H. Erdman. This year we had the 111th graduation of doctors from Kazan University.

The first hygienist of Kazan University Fedor Kalaydovich

Gran M.

Abstract

Essay on the history of social hygiene.
On the history of the Department of Hygiene of Kazan University on the occasion of its 125th anniversary.
We are poor in the history of our Russian universities in general. The three oldest medical universities (Moscow, Medical-Surgical Academy and Kazan) have only 100-year-old stories written, although the oldest of them, Moscow University, is approaching its 175th anniversary. Kazan University has a major beginning of its 100-year history, however, embracing only the first 25 years of its existence; the author of this major work in 4 voluminous volumes is Professor NP Zagoskin; under his editorship, the "Biographical Dictionary of Professors and Teachers of Kazan University" was published, covering the entire period of the 100th anniversary of Kazan University (1804-1904). Kazan University also has an interesting and valuable historical monograph in 2 volumes by N. Bulich "From the first years of Kazan University", but also embracing only a limited first 15-year period of the university (1805-1819).

"From the past." Student years

Tezyakov N.I.

Abstract

(Excerpt from the memoirs of a public physician).
N.I. Tezyakova1).
Finally, the doors of the long-desired university opened before me. Our group aspired to St. Petersburg, some to the university, some to the Medical Academy, but several people who did not have the means, ”settled on Kazan, where life was cheaper. (By the way, I must say that already from the 5th grade until the end of the gymnasium I lived on my own funds, earned by lessons. Having saved up to 100-200 rubles, I went with them to the university, where I also had to live on my own funds, earned literary work, although my mother from time to time sent me something for "training").

In memory of the glorious son of Kazan University, Dr. V. N. Zolotnitsky

Board E.

Abstract

(Based on the materials from the archive of the Department of Social Hygiene of Kazan University) ..

Another old doctor-populist and social activist, the glorious son of Kazan University, V Ladimir Nikolaevich Zolotnitsky, has passed away; left at a ripe old age - 77 years old, but continued to work almost until his last days. His work until his last days was to take an active interest in the life of the present and the past. In particular, he was keenly interested in the anniversary of our university. One of the first responded to my letter "To old doctors - citizens of Kazan" on the occasion of the anniversary with a request to send materials to the history of the university, VN was one of the first to respond. During January and February of this year, he corresponded with me; he delivered valuable materials about his life to our department , memories of the past, sent all his published works. He put me in touch with Prof. A?. V. Portugalov, the son of a scholar, writer - publicist, until the anniversary and will be a guest of honor at this university festival as the oldest student of the university. But the laws of biology decided otherwise: V.N.Zolotnitsky celebrated his 50th anniversary of medical and social activity, celebrated the 75th anniversary of his life, celebrated the formal historical date of the 125th anniversary of his university, but did not live 21/2 months before the solemn anniversary.

Abstract

About I.P. Cherushnikov.
Ivan Petrovich Cherushnikov worked simultaneously with me in Kazan as a member of the People's Will Party in the 80s. In Kazan, he was under supervision, having been transferred from another place of exile.
As a supervised person, he was always on the alert, waiting for searches at his place, and searches took place at his place in Kazan more than once. The surveillance of him was desperate, but he continued his illegal work all the time. All illegal literary novelties of non-local (not Kazan) origin were obtained through him. He also took an active part in local illegal publications, but the local investigation and the authorities had no evidence of this. Incidentally, with his participation, an illegal brochure (A. N. Bach) "Tsar-hunger" was published.

Servant - "researchers" of Kazan University

Gran M.M.

Abstract

On the jubilee days of our university, it is appropriate and fair to remember them too — especially in our Soviet era, and when “we” and “they” - professors and technical staff, former “servants” - are equal members of the same trade union. Each of the universities can note a number of such "ministers" who are eligible for the title of "researchers". It is clear that these are scientific workers of a technical order, trainees, but still scientific workers with the identification of consciousness, a kind of creativity and technical ingenuity. It is necessary to recognize their significant role in the studies of students, in the training of scientific "personnel" of the past and present; it must be admitted that their role in the implementation of "active teaching methods" in the past was very significant. I would like to recall three such figures of ministers "scientific workers" of Kazan University during these jubilee days of Kazan University.

On the mechanism of movement of the palatine plates

Jnouye M.

Abstract

Professor of Embryology, Histology and Anatomy at the Imperial University of Tokyo.
C 3 fig.
(Abstract).
The question of the movement of the palatine plates to this day is still the subject of lively discussion, which, however, has not yet led to a definite solution. The reason for this was a preparation of a pig embryo, 3 ml long, described by Dursu, in which one palatal plate was located next to the tongue, while the other lay on top of the tongue. Dursy thought this embryo was apparently pathological. In 1901. a second such case was published by His'om, suggesting that this embryo was in a normal physiological movement. His'a observation prompted many researchers to study this issue.

Experiments on obtaining precipitating sera by the Fajiwara method

Borodatova T.S.

Abstract

Experiments on obtaining precipitating sera by the Fajiwara method1).
Assistant to T. S. Borodatova.
In my first report, published in No. 9 of the Kazan Medical Journal for 1927, I presented the results of immunization of rabbits using a slightly modified method of Dr. Karaganov, and it was noted that the use of the second series of immunization leads to the formation of sera of a higher titer. The highest serum titer obtained in these first experiments was 1: 25000 and the weakest serum had a titer of 1: 2000. I also pointed out there that after primary immunization, it is relatively rare to obtain sera that are suitable in their strength for the purposes of forensic blood testing, and only after the second series of immunization is it possible to obtain such sera.

To the microanatomy of the spleen

Goryaev N.K., Akhrem-Akhremovich R.M.

Abstract

From a physiological point of view, the spleen has recently attracted special attention as a reserve reservoir of blood. In view of the ability to independently actively change — to a very large extent — its volume and blood circulation, the spleen is of no small importance as a factor that can significantly affect the overall blood circulation in the vascular system, as well as on the portal circulation.

To the question of reticuloendotheliosis

Malkina Z.I.

Abstract

The division of leukemias, which existed until recently, or according to the latest terminology of leukemia, into two groups - lymphadenoses and myeloses, respectively, two genera of leicopoietic tissue according to the doctrine of dualists, has undergone significant changes in recent years due to the desire of a number of authors to delimit monocytes from the lymphatic and myeloid series in the form of a third independent type of blood cell elements. The works of Gold man n'a, Aschoff'a, Kiyono, Landau, Mac Nee and others put forward the doctrine of the reticuloendothelial system, the cells of which are attributed to a number of common properties: the ability to deposit electronegative colloidal substances in themselves, the ability to phagocytosis, and the participation of cells of this systems, both in embryonic and in subsequent life, especially under pathological conditions, in blood formation. Aschoff's research. Kiuono, Paschkis'a and others have shown that blood monocytes are in close genetic relationship with histiocytes of the r.-e. systems.

Essential thrombopenia case treated with spleen removal

Dryagin K.A.

Abstract

Essential thrombopenia was called Verlhof's disease by Frаnk as a sign that there is either a decrease or disappearance of plates from the peripheral blood. The importance of the lack of plates for the diagnosis and pathogenesis of hemorrhagic diseases was especially emphasized by the American W. W. Duke in 1910 and Ghapk'om in 1915, and in 1917 Kaznelson'oM was proposed for the treatment of essential thrombopenia splenectomy. In connection with the work of Frank’a, Kaz- nelson’a and others on thrombopenia, numerous reports have appeared both in foreign and Russian literature. So, in the Russian literature, we found reports of splenectomy for essential thrombopenia of Gefter 1 case, Plavinsky 1 case, Shaak 2 cases, Levita 1 case, Costa 2 cases, Faerman 1 case. at the XVIII Congress of Ross, Klyucharev's surgeons 3 cases. and Herzen 1 case. Among foreign authors, we can cite M. Mohnzopidr, citing the author of Spencer, who collected 101 cases. splenectomy for essential thrombopenia.

Clinical significance of trichomonas vaginalis

Belyaev E.I.

Abstract

Each gynecologist in his practice repeatedly had to be convinced of his powerlessness to save his patients from stubborn leucorrhoea, lasting for years, sometimes haunting them and acting on their psyche is extremely difficult. At the same time, thorough studies of the state of the genital area and no less thorough bacterioscopic studies of secretions from the genital canal do not provide a clue for explaining these phenomena, and very often, after futile attempts to treat such patients from alleged chronic gonorrhea, the origin of these secretions is attributed to anemia and other diseases of a general nature.

Active surgery (collapse therapy) in the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis

Katerov V.I.

Abstract

Of all the currently used types of surgical intervention in the treatment of pulmonary tbc, as you know, the most common and justified are actually 3 operations: a) virtually bloodless intervention - artificial pneumothorax (pneum.), B) almost bloodless and technically easy operation - frenico -exeresis and, finally, c) bloody, serious and technically difficult operation - extensive thoraco-plasty. Despite the significant difference in the technique of these operations, they are all based on one general idea — collapse therapy, that is, the desire to obtain a therapeutic effect by more or less significant compression and immobilization of the affected lung. I will not touch upon the technique and clinic of these operations here, but I will dwell briefly on the fundamental side of this method of treatment, on the essence of the action of collapse therapy (col. Ter.).

On the ways of the revolutionary intelligentsia

Brodovsky P.K.

Abstract

(To the results of the Plenum of the Central Presidium of Varnitso on May 4-5, 1930).,. P.K.Brodovsky. Questions about the choice of the path — to socialism or to the camp of its conscious and irresponsible enemies — are now being raised before various strata of the intelligentsia with unprecedented sharpness and persistence. V. Molotov. All attempts not to take one or the other side end in failure and scandals. V. Lenin. The starting point for discussing the tasks of our era is the understanding of this era as a historically inevitable period of the dictatorship of the proletariat, moreover, the task of the proletarian dictatorship is to build socialism — a comprehensive restructuring of the life of human society based on a new economy and technology. If we pose the question of how the intelligentsia relates and what part does the intelligentsia take in solving these problems of the epoch, then it will become clear to anyone who is even slightly familiar with the history of our revolution that it is impossible to give a general, sweeping answer to this question.
