The predisposing moments here are often trauma and infection. The bone marrow is usually infected by blood, but this is not the case, but for the bones the haematogenous route of infection is the rule. The germs originate either from some nest of infection or from the skin and mucous membranes; in this case the infection can remain hidden in the body for longer than is usually thought.
