If a patient reached the point of coma, there was almost never any rescue. Only a few survived this complication. With the introduction of insulin, however, the number of those saved from coma immediately increased dramatically. Umber reports that before the insulin era, of his 48 patients with ma diabeticum, only three were temporarily saved, while of his 44 coma patients, 32 were recently saved.</p>Kazan Medical archiveКазанский медицинский архив
